The First World Series: A Boston First Pittsburgh Pirates vs. the Pilgrims It happened right here on Huntington Avenue's Baseball Grounds-the first World Series, a Boston invention with all the ingredients for innovation: competition, cooperation, guts, and money. Boston lost the first game but went on to win three out of four in Pittsburgh to the joy of Boston fans. Back in Boston on October 1, 1903, the Pilgrims, soon to be the Red Sox, won the series and the Royal Rooters (fans) went wild. Some things don't change.
